Honoring your Feelings. Flowing Through the Emotional Waters of Grief {Emotional Wellness}

How are you feeling emotionally today? How is your emotional health?

When I present that question, what comes up for you? Are you suddenly filled with emotions you didn’t know existed or needed to be expressed?

Emotional Wellness is associated with

  • Psychological well-being

  • How we release and take in emotions

  • State of persons overall emotional health and ability to effectively manage and navigate their emotions 

  • Involves being in touch with ones feels, understanding them and having the skills to cope

When we are aware and intuitively tune into our Emotional Wellness, we have the opportunity to navigate our emotional waters without taking them on. When we work with our emotions we can view them as waves and ourselves as surfers that we can flow and surrender to the wave in order to navigate to the other side with flow vs force.

At the time of me writing this my emotional wellness, the wellness of the world, my community and family is on the top of my mind as we are all in a state of collective grief. The world is grieving as we navigate through many revolutions.

I was blessed to catch an IG Live from @grandmababyapothecary a few days after attending my beloved aunt's homegoing ceremony. In one of her readings she reflected on grief and her reflections spoke to the depths of heart while I was overcome with grief.

She also mentioned, speaking up about grief is an offering. There is no shame in grief. Through the transparency of our grief, holds the key that can set us free.

I had a chance to sit with all of the grief at a recent trip to the ocean where I was visited by an orca whale. A symbol of wisdom and peace.

In The Healing Wisdom of Africa Malidoma reminds us in the west we ignore the powers of the water and are fascinated with fire. Sharing an angry person is one who is on the road to tears. Grief is expressed in tears, anger and frustration and sadness. In our western modern world, we are told to be strong in times of grief. That a soft expression is not acceptable but what is. . . . . . . anger and rage. 🤔

People are afraid of their emotions because they are so scared to lose control. There lies the danger in remaining stuck with the rage, anger, and sadness, which are the low expression of grief when it remains hidden.

So how can we honor what we feel, and navigate our emotions in a healthy way?

In a recent collective oracle reading spirit led me to an answer as I did some bibliomancy. I landed on page 187 of One Day My Soul Opened Up by Iyanla Vanzant which outlined an Emotional Neutralization Process.

With the understanding that healing is an ongoing process, we also understand there are moments where we must act to provide ourselves with an emotional release.

The chart pictured below provided by Iyanla Vanzant's One Day My Soul Opened Up is not just a quick fix but a process where you can find temporary relief from negative emotions that might be bubbling up to the surface.

By exploring these activities you may find it easier to move through your experiences without expressing the low vibes of emotions and grief.

Remind yourself your feelings are always valid!

In order to bring not only your emotions but your mental and spiritual energies back to harmony it requires work. I invite you to have the courage to be aware of the emotions that are coming up as well as tapping into that courage to confront your own inner conflict. All requires patience with yourself and others. Also a willingness to go back and reflect, in order to move forward.

Trust and love yourself enough to give yourself the permission to know that you can feel your feelings and recover from it. That is the power that you possess as the alchemist of your life. Intuitively confronting and navigating your emotional well being can bring in equanimity.

Water rituals after a loss of any kind, a loved one, a job, a dream, a relationship and community can bring peace and togetherness.

I invite you today and everyday to allow yourself to grieve and feel your emotions unapologetically however that looks like for you. Allow water to be a conduit of emotions purifying cleansing, reconciling as a way to call in peace.
